This fan has a DC motor which is a very important feature for a ceiling fan. All AC motor fans make a slight 60 Hz. humming noise which can be very annoying especially at night when you are sleeping. This fan has no hum at all and is extremely quiet. The more expensive DC motor makes the fan silent. It also uses a fraction of the power an AC fan uses for the same air movement because DC motors are much more energy efficient than old fashioned inefficient AC motors. Note that on low speed, the fan only uses 2 1/2 watts to move 1750 CFM of air.High speed: 37 watts, 185 rpms, 5029 CFM airflowMed. speed: 21 watts, 3490 CFM airflowLow speed: 2.48 watts, 67 rpms, 1746 CFM airflowThe second great feature is the built-in LED light that produces an amazing 2304 lumens of 3000k dimmable light while using only 26 watts under full brightness. That is the equivalent of about three 60 watt light bulbs. The light is very well diffused and non-glaring behind a white frosted glass shade.The fan and light can be turned on and off separately from standard wall switches if your house is wired for ceiling fans. You can also buy an optional Minka wall switch module that will control the three fan speeds, and dim the light all from this wall control switch. The Minka Aire model number for this wall switch is WDC1200 and it costs about $47.
