You will need to purchase a thermostat, some couplings, tubing, clamps, something to mount it to your vehicle and preferrably a relay to wire this up properly, but this is a nice little unit out of the box. I've read conflicting reports but the most conservative estimate I've read (that seems credible) says that trans fluid starts to degrade over 200 degrees so I used that as my pass/fail for this project. Luckily, even after taking the 4x4 trail to iron lake the temp never exceeded 195 according to my infared thermometer.
