WHY RED LINE - Established in 1979, Red Line Products perform & protect better than any on the market. No compromises
I decided to switch my Honda S2000 over to Redline High Performance 5W30 from Amsoil 10W30 (ATM) after seeing Amsoil slowly degrade the quality of their motor oils over the last few years. The other considerations included the High Temperature High Shear (HTHS) values of Redline products - and the ester levels in their oils. This occurred after Amsoil’s founder stepped aside, and unfortunately later passed away - and his son took the reigns of the company. Amsoil was founded by a man principled on making the very best motor oil possible. Unfortunately, every piece of information I can reference points to it no longer being that.Redline has always produced one of the very best motor oils, albeit at a premium. They were purchased by Phillips a few years ago - but unprecedentedly the product is still top shelf, and amazingly has become a bargain at it’s current price point.FTR - I was an Amsoil dealer for over 20 years, but have let my dealership lapse as of this year due to the degradation of the product (by their own published product specifications no less).Redline is the best oil I could find for my specific application. I have a modified S2000 that needs a no compromise oil. The F20C spins over 9000 RPM at the limiter, and all those fast spinning components need an oil that can deal with the point friction, intense shear levels and temperature stability needed in such a high stress environment - and honestly there is no better oil for such an engine. The line of Redline oils currently provide the highest levels of ester. While it’s no longer a ‘complete’ Group V synthetic (it’s technically a Group IV now based on the proportion of PAO to Ester in the blend - it is of course a true “full synthetic” oil - the ‘blend’ is the combination of synthetic base oils... PAO and Ester), it still has the highest levels of ester of any widely available automotive engine oil.For comparison, Amsoil ATM 10W30 now has a pathetically low HTHS value of 3.11 CP, which is the same as their 5W30. Their listed NOACK is still very low at 4.0. You need to take that into context, though as the Redline 5W30 has a HTHS of 3.7 CP, with a NOACK of 6.0 - showing a higher true viscosity, with a marginally higher NOACK value (measure of evaporation) - while understanding the 5W30 has a higher Viscosity Index (greater viscosity spread over a larger temperature range). You need to go up to a 0W40 in the Amsoil line to get to a HTHS of 3.7.The result: despite a slightly higher NOACK rating - my S2000 is actually burning the same low level it did while running the incredibly low NOACK Amsoil 10W30. Less than 0.25 qt per 3000 miles. My car is a 2002 S2000 - which infamously burn a lot of oil (for a number of reasons). Burning less than a quarter of a quart over 3,000 milesIs incredibly good for this car, and more what you would expect for a much more ‘pedestrian” Honda product. For the S2000 owners out there - this car is in VTEC all the time - which greatly increases oil consumption. It’s not a factor with this oil - and Redline provides significantly more protection at the boundary level than any other oil.
