Its job is to engage the rear axle the moment the computer senses traction loss at the front axle. The system is designed to engage the pump for 2 seconds in 20 second intervals keeping itself constantly primed, and as a result, causing the motor brushes to wear out over time. A second cause of failure is a clogged system filter placing additional strain on the motor resulting in premature burn-out.
