We guys generally like macho stuff, and these wipes are kind of macho. While they allegedly have no "solvents," they do have the ability to remove tar, oil, grease, dirt, etc. Even more fascinating, one side of the towel is a softer wiper while the opposite side is an abrasive scrubber that can help remove tougher dirt.How well do these wipes work? Reasonably well. We have solvents that cut grease and oil more quickly, but they are also toxic. So, for wipes that seem to generally avoid toxicity, these are probably a better bet. Admittedly, we have not tried to clean up every type of mess, but for dirt, oil, and grease, they seem to work fairly well. We have not tried tar, though some reviewers indicate that the wipes will tackle tar. We would also not use the scrubber side of this towel on painted surfaces of our cars. Incidentally, the product specifically says to avoid using the wipes on glass.It took a bit of searching, but we finally found the ingredients for these wipers. Well, most of the ingredients, since 80 to 96% are listed as "secret formula," which we list as "mystery meat." According to the safety data sheet, these wipes include:Ethoxylated alcohol surfactant: 2-10%Sodium xylene suphonate: 1-5%Ethoxylated amine tomamine E-14-5: 1-5%Mystery meat: 80-96%We are not chemists, and our chemistry background is limited, so we have to take Drumex's word that these chemicals are not "solvents" or "VOCs." The safety data sheet for this product indicates that the chemicals in the wipes are eye irritants, but the data sheet also indicates that ingestion and breathing are assumed to be non-typical modes of entry. Even so, under the accidental release measures, the safety data sheet says ensure adequate ventilation. So, while there may be no VOC's as such, there apparently is something that can go into the air that can be irritating, so holding these wipes to a face and taking a big snort seems unwise. Also unwise is wiping a face with these wipes.We did a bit of head scratching with respect to a rating. The question is one of expectation. These wipes are great for oil and dirt, but struggle a bit with dried grease. We also have some interesting grime of indeterminate origin that came off with a fair amount of elbow grease and using the scrubbing side. So, our thought is that these wipes are probably better for people with respiratory and/or skin issues when exposed to solvents, and generally better for people and the environment regardless of sensitivity. Even so, sometimes solvents just work more efficiently and thoroughly. The bottom line is that the wipes are not going to replace all toxic solvents, BUT, they seem like a decent alternative. After waffling between four and five stars for a bit, we finally decided that for a non-solvent based wipe, they are pretty darn good. Not perfect, but pretty good. So, we are going for five stars on this product.Enjoy!I'm very happy with these towels. I keep them in the workshop and they server their purpose well when its time to clean up oil and grease. I have used them on a number of surfaces from metal to glass, to my hands. They perform well on all of these. Making for easy cleanup after working in the shop or on the cars.one update, and another thing keeping this from a 5 star review. While the towels are great, I just learned the hard way the container is not so great. Just it dropping from the hood of the car to the ground (car not a truck) resulting in the plastic lid shattering.Very tough on grease and grime. Easy pull wipes that work well indoors or outside. May be too harsh for bathtubs or showers. Perfect for outdoor metal patio tables and chairs. No intrusive odors. Top cleaning rags. You may want to put on hand lotions before and after use or wear rubber gloves if you have sensitive skin. I had no problem with skin irritations etc after use. Works very well on barbecue grill, but be sure to rinse well afterwards.These are rugged, large wipes. The texture is fairly rough. It works to get dirty, greasy hands clean. We also use it to wipe difficult stains on our RV. I would have been happier if the fabric were less abrasive so that I could use it on the glossy finish of my car and our RV. These cleanups are large and nicely wet.They are expensive, but really worth it if you need some cleaning power when no water is available.Just like Clorox wipes and smells good too. The tub is quite large. The ingredient list sounds pretty scary with nothing natural in it.Good wipes! These help make clean-up much easier. The price is good and the quality is good. Excellent for cleaning tools, tool boxes, and hands after doing messy jobs!I used one of these to wipe down my car. It seemed to work pretty good. Not bad for a quick clean up. Seems a bit abrasive for a car finish but probably okay for an occasional quickie clean up.The healthy ingredients seem to be okay on your skin but those are the minority (at the bottom of the ingredient list). The rest of the ingredient list looks like a toxic waste list. I haven't researched them to see just how toxic they might be.I've dropped these to only three stars since I've found they dry my hands out.These are great for mechanics and other people who work in an industry where you have to scrub your hand because of oil, grease or other gunk. You can use these on your hands, tools or even for cleaning in the house or in your car. I will be using them in my bathroom and kitchen, where the hard water leaves stains. Do not use on glass or surfaces that may scratch. The rough side especially, could make those surfaces get scratched all over. I wouldn't even use the soft side on them. But for toilets, sinks and dirty tools and hands, this is great.
